Kot Agent is a free browser game. It is run by a private individual, the author of the project, from the Republic of Kazakhstan. There is no registration and you don't need your real name: you can play under any nickname. Send questions and requests to hello@kotagent.com.

What we don't ask for

If you write something like that yourself in a nickname, theme or message, it is stored as ordinary text, so it's better not to. If you email us, we will see your email address.

We don't use cookies, ads, analytics or trackers. Pages, images and fonts load only from our own server. We don't sell data.

What happens when you open the site

As soon as you open the site, your browser connects to the server and the server sees your IP address. If a technical error occurs in the game, its description is sent automatically, even if you haven't joined a room yet.

What is stored on the server

Nickname, cat and team names
So that players can see each other. Stored with the room.
The course of the match: clues, revealed words, points, evening results
The game can't work without this. It also includes service data: the board layout, players' marks and action times. Stored with the room.
The host's custom theme: name and words
To deal words onto the board. Other players see the theme name, the number of words and the words dealt. Stored with the room.
A hash of a random device token
To return you to the same game after a lost connection. The token is created on your device and sent to the server when you connect, and only its irreversible hash is saved. This hash is the same in all rooms you play in from this device and is visible to other players in service data. Stored with the room.
Problem reports and errors
Your text, including a contact if you left one, or a description of a technical error with its place in the code. Also the time, room number, game stage, whether it's a shared screen, and the browser string (User-Agent). This is used to fix the game. Deleted after about 90 days, checked once a day. If the file grows too large, the oldest records are deleted sooner.
IP address
Only to protect against spam and code guessing. Kept in memory during the connection and usually no longer than 20 minutes after it. Not written to the game's files or logs.

A room is deleted one day after the last action if nobody is in it. While players are connected, it stays alive. An empty lobby with no matches played is deleted after 30 minutes, or after one day if a shared screen is connected to it.

What is stored on your device

Your browser's memory (localStorage) holds your nickname, cat, token, last room, sound settings, the themes you created, the language you chose and small interface marks. This is only needed for the game to work. You can remove it all by clearing the site's data in your browser; this doesn't delete data on the server.

Who sees what

Players in a room see your nickname, cat and moves. Anyone who knows the room code can join it or connect a shared screen. So don't write in nicknames, names, clues or themes anything you don't want to show, and don't include other people's personal data.

Where the server is

The server is rented from Oracle Cloud and is located in Frankfurt, Germany. If you use the old temporary address, traffic passes through the Tailscale service. Hosting and network providers technically carry traffic under their own rules. By connecting to the game you agree that the data listed above is transferred to this server.

Consent and your rights

By creating or joining a room you agree to these rules. If they don't suit you, don't join a room and close the site.

You can leave a room at any time. Moves already played and your nickname in the match history stay in the room until it is deleted. If you want them removed sooner, write to us.

You can ask what is stored about you and ask to correct or delete it: email us the room number and your nickname. All members of a room know its number and we don't know who you are, so we may decline to share room information if we can't confirm that it's yours. We can delete a room early at the request of one of its members.

Children

The game is intended for players aged 16 and over. If you are younger, play with the permission of your parents or guardians. The game doesn't check age.

Changes

If these rules change, we will update this page and the date at the top, and we'll try to give notice of significant changes on the game's home screen.
